Head Start has served many children and their families since it began in 1965. I am elated that our counties are a part of the nationwide effort in providing services to children and families.
Your "Parent Handbook " will give you plenty of information about the program and its operation. As you read, you will find that Head Start is a program that can benefit the entire family. Especially in preparing your child to be "School Ready".
I strongly encourage each of you to volunteer at your center and participate in our training sessions when your schedule allows. Please share with us any concerns you may have which will assist us in our efforts to make your Head Start experience a good one.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dena Banks, MSA, M.Ed

Head Start provides children with a learning environment and varied experiences which help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer at the center. As parents you play an important role in your child's life. We encourage fathers to get involved in their child's education. Father involvement has a unique impact on children's outcomes, including cognitive development, achievement, math and reading.
